Why Change?
Interest in Vampires exploded in 2010. Vampire films, books, TV shows, social media and games drew mass attention. Our job, in a media environment filled with vampire-themed chaos, was to alert our fans to a new season of HBO series True Blood.
What Changed?
Members of our 20,000 member strong Facebook page were invited to forego their mortality and register online as vampires. Fans logged onto iamvampire.co.nz to tell a story about who bit them, and when and how it happened for a chance to be listed as a freshly turned fang banger in the world's first vampire's births ad.
Hundreds of fans participated, and on launch day – again through Facebook – they were directed to the NZ Herald where there sinister new identity could be found. Viewership was up significantly on season 2 with average ratings up 95% and share 70% against our core 25-34yr viewers. This translated to an extra 89,700 new viewers tuning in to the third season.
